OPEN CALL – REWILDING PRACTICE 2027

REWILDING PRACTICE is a year-long part-time programme offering up to 10 emerging artists an intensive research and practice-based experience developed with an industry partner. The work produced by programme participants contributes to professional level portfolios to support future creative or career pathways. Participating artists are offered studio space, regular tuition including careers advice and input from industry professionals and visiting artists.
REWILDING PRACTICE 2 – Art Practice as Public and Civic Good (2027) tests a model in which artists become key contributors to regeneration strategy. The decline of the high street requires innovative solutions in regenerating areas previously dependent on retail activity. The programme is rooted in Hull city centre, within the context of a £70m transformation including the redesign of Queen’s Gardens, the restoration of the Maritime Museum as part of the Hull Maritime Project & the redevelopment of historic Whitefriargate. Artists participating in the programme will contribute ambitious & imaginative creative ideas to the redevelopment of the Whitefriargate location, responding to its history, social value & visual qualities. They will learn about practical aspects of redevelopment and will develop approaches aligned with their interests & lived experience including local histories, public art, socially engaged practice, design of public spaces, and the role of culture in regeneration & placemaking. Through sustained support & sector-focused learning, artists will be equipped to work confidently within complex public & civic environments. Because of the potential breadth of interests involved in this programme, we welcome applications from artists working in visual and other creative areas.
